community support day trip

The floating support team has been set up to help those living in the community who need a little extra support. The aim is to help people to remain in the housing they choose by offering support and advice on all issues - including emotional support, help with making and keeping appointments, attending groups, help with accessing and attending other areas of support, support in meetings, parenting guidance, self esteem, budgeting advice, accessing leisure facilities and more.

The objectives of GNFC's floating support are:

  • To provide tenancy support for up to 2 yearsdrop-in 1
  • To help you participate fully in your community.
  • To help you develop your life skills and confidence, so that you can successfully live independently.
  • To support you to gain access to employment or training.
  • To offer help, information and practical support.
  • To foster a sense of belonging and individual identity

We won't make decisions for you - or tell you what to do with your life. Instead we will support and work with you, helping you to regain control of your life and enable you to make your own drop-in 2decisions. The main way this is done is through meeting in your home and agreeing what assistance you need. Action plans are decided together so that we work effectively towards goals set by you. We will then see you at least once a week and help you to engage in groups and other appropriate activities.

Drop-in Group

The Drop-in group meets on Wednesdays (including school holidays) at Buxton Community Church, London Road, Buxton.  As the name suggests, it is a relaxeddrop-in 3 and informal group meeting to offer support.  The group prepares and shares lunch together (£1 each) and often there is a fun and informal activity such as craft or card making or relaxation.  Sometimes there are visitors such as the community arts group or an art therapist. We also arrange trips out, especially in the summer, and there's always time to chat.  The group is also consulted about planning and development of GNFC Services.

Women's Group

The Women's Group meets each Tuesday at 9:30 am (term-time only). This is an informal session with time to chat and relax together over coffee and biscuits. This group is also consulted about planning and development of GNFC Services. If you are interested in attending, please contact Chriss or Sue on 01298 24761
