PLUCKY DUCK STORY

Quick thinking 11 year-old saves duckling

During the summer of 2003, Keith and Debbie's daughter Anna retrieved a duck egg from a rubbish bin in Buxton's Pavilion Gardens. She brought the egg home and placed it carefully into one of our incubators. "Poor Anna," we all thought, "she will be disappointed when nothing happens".Image: Abraham the lucky duck

We of little faith! A few weeks later, to our utter astonishment, Abraham (pictured here in Anna's lap) pushed his beak through the shell and greeted the world with a loud "cheep!"

After gaining weight and a rather dashing set of downy feathers, the plucky duck joined the others at Norman Wood farm's duckpond.

FLY AWAY HOME
Abraham remained at the farm until one day, having reached maturity, he flew off into the 'wild blue yonder'. I wonder if he ever met up with his family?
